When Thunder and Lightning Sing

Project Type

Photography and Painting works.

Date

June 2023

When Thunder and Lightning Sing Exhibition is Storm Cuff’s first solo exhibition where she explores her artistry through ideas pertaining to blackness, childhood, identity, and love. By incorporating her early experiences with art in the world of performance, more specifically as a dancer, coupled with her exposure to more visual art forms, she discovers new layers of her identity. This expedition of artistic growth and discovery promotes the idea that art is not linear and that it can be explored in several ways. She has found a way to embrace various mediums and redefine the meaning of being an artist on her terms.

“When Thunder and Lightning Sing” = when both my artistic worlds Stormzeyeview and The Kid in the Storm collide.

"I created this title to honor the two worlds of art I’ve grown to love: photography and painting. Growing up I aspired to be a ballerina. I so desperately wanted dance to be my avenue. But I learned to expand and not limit my artistry. However, by no means would I ever neglect dance, it was my first love, but I knew it wasn’t the only home for my talents. For a while my photography and painting lived separately and in that time I was crafting ideas that would eventually bring them together. I realized that both of these art forms reside under the 'big umbrella' a.k.a my name, The Quiet Storm, that’s when the parallel worlds began to merge. Stormzeyeview and The Kid in the Storm collided with each other and in that thunderstorm they began to sing in harmony."
